Deck and Stair lighting

We got a call from a client looking for a smart power supply for their deck lighting.

“I don’t want to be going out every night turning on and off the deck lighting,” he said, “have you any ideas?”

At Fence Supply Online we stock a smart power supply for deck lighting, which gives you control over how it works. We believe it makes life easier for those who have deck lighting and it can even save you money over the years of service. Our expert recommended one to the client.

“Is it difficult to install?” was the next question, “I don’t want it in a box on the shelf gathering dust, just because it’s too much trouble to assemble.”

Our unit is straightforward to install. The control box is also very simple to operate when it is in place.

Our expert outlined the instructions for the client and soon wrapped up the sale. A few days later the customer called back to say the family is delighted with their smart deck lighting  — another satisfied customer.

Installing a smart power supply for your deck lighting involves:

  • Mounting the transformer at a safe spot on the deck
  • Putting the smart power supply photocell on a post
  • Fitting the tee connector for the smart power supply
  • Attaching the deck lighting and programming the smart power supply

Let’s take a closer look at each point.

Mounting the transformer at a safe spot on the deck

Once you unpack the box, you will see that you have a transformer, photocell, and tee connector to attach to the deck.

First job is mounting the transformer.

As it is not essential to see the transformer to operate the lighting, you can put this in a hidden spot. There is a control panel that you may need to access so make sure the place is accessible.

The power cord is 5-foot long, so find a spot close to the power supply. Using a stainless-steel screw mount the transformer box to the deck.

Plug the power cord in, and you are on the way.

Putting the smart power supply photocell on a post

Unlike the transformer, the photocell will need to fit to a clear place on the deck; it will need to sense the changes in night and day for the smart power supply to work.

Do not put it where the kids may kick it off by mistake.

Place the photocell on a post or railing where it will not be in anyone’s way.

The cord is 5-foot long, so find somewhere within reach of the unit.

Attach it to the deck using a stainless-steel screw and run the power cord to the transformer box.

Fitting the tee connector for the power supply

The tee connector allows you to connect the deck lighting to the smart power supply.

You can screw it onto the deck next to the first light or in a central location, if you are running more than one set of lights.

The tee design gives you the option to connect three sets of lights. The power cord is 4-foot long, so find a suitable place on the deck.

Once you have it in place, you are good to go.

Attaching the deck lighting and programming the smart power supply

When you are happy with your deck lighting, then you can connect it to the smart power supply.

It should be as simple as just plugging them into the tee connector.

There are control apps available to download for both Apple and Android smartphones.

With the app, you can program the unit.

When all is ready, relax and enjoy the beautiful lighting on your deck.
